Cycling along the Bukhangang River in Chuncheon, a city of 280,000 people
A relaxing day following the aroma of dakgalbi in Chuncheon, a great getaway destination by train from Seoul.
Introducing This City
When wondering where to go for the weekend, Chuncheon is often the first place that comes to mind. Home to a population of about 280,000, it is a charming neighborhood where urban hustle and the peaceful leisure of a lakeside coexist. Taking the ITX-Cheongchun train from Seoul gets you there in just over an hour, making it stress-free even for travelers without a car. It is the perfect destination for those looking to heal by riding a bike or sipping a warm cup of coffee amidst lake-embraced scenery.
The Path This City Has Walked
Chuncheon has historically been the center of waterways where the Bukhangang River (๋ถํ๊ฐ) and Uiamho Lake meet. During the Joseon Dynasty, it was a key hub for local administration, and in the 1960s and 70s, it began to gain fame as a pilgrimage site for college students' MT (membership training) trips. Many of you likely have memories of heading to Gangchon or Baegyang-ri on the old Gyeongchun Line train. Today, with the opening of the subway line, the old railway tracks have been replaced with bicycle paths and romance, establishing the city as a place where the past and present naturally blend.

When talking about Chuncheon, courses that involve walking along open rivers and mountains are an absolute must. I've selected places where simply walking with a camera opens up picturesque scenery. These are places filled with great memories from my own walks, so be sure to add them to your weekend itinerary.

Taste and Style of This City
If you go to Chuncheon, you absolutely cannot miss the dakgalbi sizzling on an iron griddle and the sweet-and-spicy makguksu (buckwheat noodles). Every autumn, the Chuncheon Makguksu Dakgalbi Festival is held, buzzing the city with foodies from all over the country. After filling up on delicious food, experience the thrilling fun of walking across the Uiamho Skywalk and looking down at the river flowing beneath your feet. Just renting a bicycle and riding along the riverside completely blows away everyday stress.

Things to Know Before Traveling
Taking the ITX-Cheongchun train from Seoul gets you to Namchuncheon Station or Chuncheon Station in about 1 hour and 10 minutes, making there no better place for a weekend outing. Utilizing city tour buses or bicycle rentals near the station allows you to thoroughly enjoy a car-free trip. Train tickets sell out quickly on weekends, so we recommend booking about a week in advance!
